The Declaration of Independence was passed on July 4th, 1776 by Congress so that the colonies could declare independence from England. In the document, there were complaints against King George III so that the colonists could furthermore understand the abuse coming from the government. This allowed the colonies to make their own government. After the 2nd Continental Congress, Great Britain officially recognized the United States as an Independent Nation.
