The Tea Act was established in May 10, 1773. Tea merchants in the colonies were cut out of the tea trade because the British India Company lowered their tea prices. The act gave the British East India Company the right to ship tea without taxes. The company controlled tea sales in the colonies, which eventually led to the Boston Tea Party.
