The Declatory Act was a British law, passed on March 18, 1766 by the Parliament. The Declatory Act was passed at the same time as the Stamp Act was revoked. It was passed to affirm its power to legislate for the colonies. It provided the British with a broad command to impose laws, and taxes on the American Colonies. After about a year, the act was passed new trade laws were imposed on the colonies. This then lead to the Townshend Acts of 1767.
